Tips to Choose The Best Vacuum for Allergies

Vacuum

If you’ve been suffering from allergies for any amount of time (or live with someone you love that deals with serious allergies every day), you understand the importance of purchasing the best vacuum for allergies on the market today.

Regular vacuuming can cut down dramatically on allergy issues, providing a safe haven from dust particles, pollen, and other “aggressive invisible nasties” that contribute directly to allergy unpleasantness.

Vacuum

At the same time, cleaning up with a traditional vacuum probably isn’t going to “cut the mustard”, so to speak. Sure, it’s going to cut down on dust somewhat, but unless you are rolling with one of the best vacuums for allergy sufferers on the market today you aren’t going to be picking up as many allergens as possible – and you might not be making as significant an impact as you had hoped to.

Thankfully, by the time you’re done reading the inside information below you won’t have to worry about that hassle and headache any longer!

Important things to think about when looking at the best vacuums for allergies

Though you are going to want to look for a quality vacuum that has all of the same top features that any top-of-the-line solution brings to the table (reliability, durability, energy efficiency, etc.), when you’re looking for a vacuum cleaner specifically to suck up allergens and to provide a bit of a “clean room” kind of experience there are specific features you need to be on the hunt for.

We are going to break down some of those features below.

HEPA Filtration system is a MUST

The most important feature that you need to be on the lookout for when shopping for a new vacuum cleaner is the inclusion of a HEPA filtration system.

These filtration units (usually comprised of a multistage filtration system) are able to filter out even the smallest particles, helping you to cut down dramatically dust, dirt, debris, and other allergens that would otherwise cause you a world of headache hassle.

Without a HEPA filter, you aren’t going to be sucking up as much dirt, dust, and debris – and may not be making the kind of impact that you had hoped for.

This is the number one “must-have” feature when choosing the best vacuum for allergies.

Smart attachments should be able to pick up the finest particles

Secondly, you’ll want to be sure that you are getting your hands on a top vacuum cleaner that includes smart attachments that work in conjunction with your HEPA filtration system.

Believe it or not, not all vacuum cleaner attachments are created equally. Some of them are designed to suck up dirt and debris “in bulk”, whereas others are going to take a more targeted approach to make sure that absolutely EVERYTHING is sucked up into the filter of your vacuum cleaner when it runs across the floor.

The latter is definitely the type of accessory that you’ll want to take advantage of when choosing from the best vacuum cleaners for allergies.

Don’t go bagless!

There is always going to be a bit of a temptation to go with a bagless vacuum cleaner, if for no other reason than the fact that it is so much cheaper to operate in the long term.

After all, throwing away a vacuum cleaner bag every time you run your vacuum can get pretty pricey. This can be eliminated if you use the bagless vacuum model.

However, bagless vacuum cleaners aren’t going to be able to track nearly as much dust, dirt, debris, and allergens (especially at a microscopic level), and will inevitably release a lot of those allergens right back into the air and atmosphere.

This won’t make the vacuuming that you just did uselessly, but it isn’t going to help, either. Go with a vacuum cleaner for allergy & asthma sufferers that include a bag set up.

Be on the lookout for vacuums that can handle multiple floor types

Lastly, it’s important for you to be on the lookout for vacuum cleaners that can handle multiple different floor types and still suck up microscopic allergens – unless you are willing to spend quite a bit more money on multiple vacuums and are willing to switch on and off when tackling different floor surfaces in your home.

These versatile vacuum cleaners are considerably more expensive than traditional vacuum cleaners, but they are worth their weight in gold!

Vacuum

Final Thought

Those are some of the crucial points to consider, when you want to get a new vacuum for asthma or allergy sufferers. Please note that you can get either the canister or upright vacuum for your house cleaning needs.

If your house has more carpet the upright can be ideal and if you have more hard floorings, then you should consider getting a canister vacuum.
